Carmel Marathon Awarded the Road Runners Club of America Central Region Marathon Championship Race f

The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) has awarded the Carmel Marathon the RRCA Central Region Marathon Championship for 2020. The marathon will take place during the Carmel Marathon Weekend on April 4, 2020 along with a half marathon, 10K, 5K and marathon relay. 2020 also marks the tenth anniversary of the event.

“We are extremely proud of the fact that the Carmel Marathon has been honored by the RRCA once again as a championship race,” said Race Director Todd Oliver. “Earlier this year at our ninth annual event we were selected to host the State Championship for the marathon and, even with the rain, the RRCA was impressed. To be awarded one of the four Regional Championship designations is an honor for the Carmel Marathon.”

“2020 is our tenth anniversary year and we are gearing up to celebrate,” said Oliver. “Adding a broader spotlight on the event will only add to the fun and excitement of the race weekend.”

Since 1958, the RRCA has awarded championship events through a competitive bidding process at the National, Regional, and State level to RRCA member events to promote the sport of distance running. The designation of the Carmel Marathon as the Central Region Championship Race means that runners competing in the 2020 Carmel Marathon will be eligible for not only race awards, but also RRCA honors. The Carmel Marathon was chosen as the RRCA State Championship in 2019. Being selected as the Central Region Championship Race means that the Carmel Marathon will draw an even larger number of elite runners from outside of Indiana eager to compete at a regional level.
