CARMEL MARATHON BOOSTS REACH OF THE INDIANA CENTER FOR PREVENTION OF YOUTH ABUSE AND SUICIDE WITH DO
Donation Impacts More Than 4,600 Indiana Youth by Funding New School Programs
CARMEL, Ind. (Oct. 31, 2019) – The Carmel Marathon and the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide (ICPYAS) announced today that the 2019 donation from the Carmel Marathon to the ICPYAS has helped the organization reach more than 4,600 additional students through its school outreach programs. The donation enabled the ICPYAS to launch its suicide prevention curriculum in seven high-need schools that would have otherwise not been able to implement the program. The ICPYAS was named the Official Charity of the 2019 Carmel Marathon and the two organizations have continued to work together to promote the value of healthy lifestyles to the overall wellbeing of Indiana’s children.
The ICPYAS, formerly known as Chaucie’s Place, focuses on the prevention of youth abuse and suicide across Indiana. The mission of the ICPYAS is to prevent abuse and suicide through evidence-based curriculum that educates and empowers both youth and adults alike. In 2019, the ICPYAS expanded its reach throughout the state, reaching students and adults outside of Hamilton Country for the first time. In fact, the donation from the Carmel Marathon directly impacted 4,620 students who were able to participate in school programs not previously offered.
“We are so grateful for the support of the Carmel Marathon. Their dedication to the youth of central Indiana allowed us to reach thousands more children with our youth abuse and suicide prevention programs,” ICPYAS Executive Director Melissa Peregrin. “Educating and empowering everyone in the community is so important because when we as a community know more about how to prevent these tragedies, there will be no more. Everyone has a role to play in preventing youth abuse and suicide. The Carmel Marathon's support is crucial in educating the community and protecting Indiana youth for years to come.”
“We are proud to support the wonderful work that the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide is doing for children and adults across Indiana,” said Carmel Marathon Race Director Todd Oliver. “As an organization we work hard to promote healthy lifestyles through fitness and we know first-hand the positive benefits that an active lifestyle can have on an individual. For many individuals, running can be like therapy and science shows how exercise aids the mind, body and soul. We look forward to continuing to partner with the ICPYAS and supporting the vital work they are doing in our state.”
The tenth anniversary of the Carmel Marathon has been scheduled for April 4, 2020 and will again feature a full day of events, including a marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and marathon relay. The 2020 Carmel Marathon will once again support the ICPYAS as the “Official Charity” of the event.
